Electrical / Civil Estimator - Utility Infrastructure

Location: Placentia, CA / Riverside, CA (Greater Los Angeles Area)
Compensation: $100-150k base + standard benefits (flexible for the right candidate)
Schedule: Full-time, Local Role, No Travel Required
Start Date: ASAP or January start available

About the Role

A leading self-performing utility & infrastructure contractor is seeking a motivated Electrical/Civil Estimator to support expanding underground and overhead distribution projects across Southern California. This person will prepare complete cost estimates, evaluate drawings and specifications, and help competitively position the company on utility, public works, and civil-electrical projects.

This is a strong opportunity for someone with 3-5+ years of estimating experience in electrical distribution, civil utility, or related construction environments who wants to grow with a major contractor.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for underground electrical distribution, civil utility construction, and related infrastructure work.

• Perform quantity takeoffs for conduit, trenching, vaults, transformer pads, pole replacements, and associated distribution facilities.

• Review utility drawings, one-lines, civil plans, profiles, and project specifications.

• Develop production rates, evaluate crew/equipment needs, and prepare cost breakdowns.

• Support bid preparation, proposal development, and risk review for hard-bid and negotiated work.

• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to validate constructability and pricing.

• Estimate associated civil restoration: asphalt paving, concrete replacement, backfill, barriers, and traffic control.

• Track subcontractor and vendor pricing; prepare comparison spreadsheets.

• Assist in preparing bid schedules, narratives, and clarifications.

Ideal Background

• 3-5+ years estimating in utility distribution, electrical civil construction, or T&D/civil hybrid projects .

• Experience estimating any of the following:

  • Underground conduit systems (2", 4", 5" SCH40/S40E)

  • Vault replacements/rebuilds

  • Modular pole installations

  • Transformer pads, switch cabinets, slab boxes

  • Trenching, backfill, shoring, paving, and civil restoration

• Strong ability to read & interpret utility plan sets, civil drawings, and electrical design documents.

• Background with public agency bids and/or utility contract estimating .

• Familiar with utility standards, production rates, and realistic crew outputs.

• Software Experience (Preferred):

  • B2W (Bid2Win)

  • HCSS HeavyBid

  • Bluebeam

  • AGTEK or similar takeoff software
